cuz all the engine is is an air pump. so if more of the chemical reaciton is turned into work and less into heat there would be more power, so runing hotter temps means less heat loss, which means more chemcical energy bing turned into usable work

logical however incorrect, if your engine is running hotter then you run the risk of being closer to detonation, etc

that would be the case if iwas runing extemely hotter, but im talkin 10-20 degrees

let me see if my two cents helps at all:

most engines now are designed to run at a certain coolant temperature in order to make the fuel burn correctly and at the right temperatue for the best power and unfortunatly to keep your cars emissions at bay - probably for gas mileage issues too. If you switch thermostats it will change this set temperature and MIGHT cause small problems i.e. worse gas mileage, overheating, etc.

I say unless hes driving his car really hard and/or racing it every week he keep with a stock setting thermostat...

again, just my dime and a half

*edit - although I do see where your coming from SS, I don't think in the case of the fluid temperature it will help performance. That theory is more towards exhaust gases and what not

true, but one thing that we all must remember is that cars in the US are not designed for any specific region, the car mfg's just kinda say "we think this will work best everywhere", if you are in a colder climate you may want a different temp thermostat, and the same holds true for a warmer climate
