I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

I work at a shop, and you need to build a good customer base, your also going to need lots of cash for buy ins. Without tht you are going to not be able to get very good discounts. But i will give you a list of distributors that have very small buyins if u are interested when the time comes. Also location, location, location. Are shop is in an area where people do not spend alot of money on their cars. So we do mostly paint work and online sales.Keep that in mind. Also have some backup cash saved during slow times when u are going to need to pay into pocket for bills. its a very different buiseness. Especially with the amount of online parts sites. its almost impossible to make any money. unless you are doing custom work that people seek.

location, knowledge and support are a huge factor
If you don't have the right location ... your shop's going to take a shit.
My friend runs a shop, but his location is horrible - so even though his work is good, customer service is great, etc ... he jsut can't get the steady flow of business an open area shop would get.
Knowledge, i don't really need to explain because it's kind of self explanitory.
You could always write a business plan and apply for a small business loan to get you started. Writing plans is not that hard and there are plenty of them on the internet to model from. This will help you get your funds together.
Like everyone said already - one huge thing is having something that will set you apart from the rest, yet still appeal to most of the members in your community... otherwise you'll get no business.
