I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain
carputer installed! 56k kill yourselves.
Freakin' sweet!
Where did you purchase your components? Rough price run-down? Any tips you may have for others who wish to attempt a similar set up?
I'd like to do something like this, especially if the touchscreen is cheaper than I've found in the past.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... I just noticed you can have your vehicle speed displayed. Without a doubt doing this in the 240, please be sure to let us know if you are going to have GPS-based speedometer through that. :!:

LCD was 270$, DC-DC psu was 85$, various wiring 100$~, I already had the PC. aftermarket dash kit and harness were 25$, paint, bondo, other supplies 30-50$~ToByTuNeD wrote:Rough price run-down?

Yes, I have a GPS reciever coming in the mail to me on Friday. You run two pieces of software, first the iGuidance software is for GPS tracking, but there is also another piece of software which gets raw data from the GPS unit and formats it, thus showing you vehicle speed. So yes, it will do vehicle speed, it just needs configured. Remember, this is a XP-based PC, so basically anything is possible, and if it doesn't exist, you can certainly write software to make it happenToByTuNeD wrote:I'd like to do something like this, especially if the touchscreen is cheaper than I've found in the past.

Oh my god, I NEED that!
I was originally going to put a 2nd gen CL/TL navigation system in my 1st gen CL, but that looks so much better.
Where do you mount the actual computer at and how big is it? If I go the OEM route I can just put the hardrive under the passenger seat and I think the brain sits behind the dash.

thanks
The PC is just a desktop laying in the hatch area for now. I plan on building a cubbyhole on the left side of the hatch and reworking the PC internals. I'm having issues with the motherboard (its an ibm) once in awhile, so I'm considering buying a different board with the same chipset. We shall see, probably gonna do that, and then work on getting the PC hidden.
I used the GPS all weekend (carlisle) and its fucking amazing. I definitely am happy with the setup.

yeah its awesome. I got my wifi adapter yesturday. Netstumbler detects APs and then uses the GPS to pinpoint pretty closely to where its at in reglation to you, which then you can input into the navigation software. Its so awesome. I also downloaded 2gb of movies in about 15 minutes from my wireless in my driveway. I have to run new power from the PSU for the LCD and for the usb hub. Then I will have 7 usb ports avaliable in the glovebox for anything from keyboard and mouse, to usb key, digital cameras, etc. you name it, and it can do it. Its going to be so awesome
